How a gap certificate works

A gap certificate is usually an affidavit: a sworn statement, in your own name, that explains why you did not study for a period. Colleges, boards and some employers ask for it when there is a break between two courses.

Check what your college or office wants — some give their own format, the stamp paper value, and whether it must be notarised.
Print this draft on non-judicial stamp paper of that value (or on plain paper if they allow it).
Sign it in front of a Notary or Oath Commissioner, who stamps and signs it.

Write only what is true — a false affidavit is a punishable offence. Keep medical or job papers ready if you give illness or work as the reason.
