DL PDF Too Big for a KYC App? Keep It Small

Phone photos are often several MB each, so a front + back PDF made from them can be too big for KYC apps and portals, which set their own upload limits. Leave File Size → Small selected (the default):

  • Both photos are resized to a sharp, readable resolution before the PDF is built
  • Typical result: a few hundred KB instead of several MB
  • The final PDF size is shown right after you download
  • Need under 200 KB? Pass the PDF through PDF Compressor

DL Front Side and Back Side — Which Is Which?

On most Indian smart-card licences the front has your photo, name, licence number, date of birth and validity. The back usually has the vehicle classes you can drive, often your address, and a QR code. Portals that ask for "DL front and back" want both on one PDF — upload the front in the first box and the back in the second.

The Driving Licence is a commonly requested document across Indian services. Many portals insist on PDF format rather than JPG:

  • Job applications — especially driver, delivery, field-sales roles
  • RTO form uploads — licence renewal, address change, duplicate DL

DL Document Tips

  • Plastic card vs paper booklet: Most Indian states now issue plastic smart-card DLs. For these, photograph the front (with your photo) and the back (with endorsements, QR code). For older paper booklets, every page may need to be included.
  • Lamination glare: Plastic DLs reflect light. Take the photo at a slight angle and avoid direct overhead flash.
  • QR code clarity: Some portals scan the QR on the back. Make sure that square is sharp and fully visible in your photo.
  • International Driving Permit: If you need IDP as PDF, same process — upload each page as separate images.

How do I compress my driving licence PDF to upload in a KYC app?
Make the PDF here with File Size → Small (the default): add the DL front and back photos and download — the size is shown after the download. If the app asks for an even smaller file, put that PDF through Compress PDF to 100KB or PDF to 200KB, whichever limit the app shows. Nothing is uploaded at any step.
Does this work for Learner's Licence too?
Yes. Learner's Licence cards are the same size as regular DLs. Upload front (and back if applicable) the same way.
Can I include my DL plus other documents?
This tool is DL-specific (front + back). For multi-document packs, use JPG to PDF which accepts any number of images.
Is my DL data safe?
Yes. Everything happens in your browser — your images and PDF never go to any server. DL numbers are considered moderately sensitive (they link to your address and DOB), so local-only processing matters.
What if my DL is in multiple languages?
The tool doesn't care about the language on the card — it just places images on the page. Cards printed in Hindi, English, or regional languages all work the same way.
Will the QR code on the back be readable?
Yes, provided your source photo captures the QR clearly. The tool preserves the original image detail — it doesn't re-compress unless necessary. Test by scanning the final PDF's QR with any QR reader app before submitting.
