Compress PDF to 200KB — or Any Size

Many forms and portals only accept small PDFs, often 200 KB or less. Set your target size, upload your PDF, download the compressed file. No upload to server. Works 100% offline.

How it works

1
Select your target size — 200KB for most government portals
2
Upload your PDF — it never leaves your device
3
It first tries a lossless clean-up. If that is not small enough, it turns each page into a picture and picks the sharpest resolution that fits
4
Download the PDF — the result tells you the final size and which method was used

Which size does my form need?

Each exam sets its own limits, and they change between notifications and between documents (certificate, photo, signature). Check the official notification or the upload page, then type that number in Custom above.

NSP scholarship documents

The National Scholarship Portal’s FAQ for students (2023-24) asks for each document — income or caste certificate, marksheet, fee receipt, bank passbook — as a PDF or JPEG of not more than 200 KB (FAQ, Q12). NSP’s own FAQ says the upload screen shows the format to use (NSP FAQ, Q23) — check it before you upload. Keep 200 KB selected here. Need a JPEG instead? Use compress image to 200KB. Only have photos of the certificate? Make a PDF with JPG to PDF and choose “under 200 KB”.

Other sizes: 50 KB · 100 KB · 300 KB · 500 KB · 1 MB · 2 MB

Why Government Portals Reject Your PDF

Recruitment and admission portals usually set a maximum file size for each document. If your file is even slightly over the limit, the portal rejects it with an error such as "File size exceeds limit". The exact limit is in the official notification for your exam.

This tool first re-saves the PDF without losing anything. If that is still too big, it converts each page into a JPEG picture and searches for the highest resolution and quality that fits under your target, so the file stays as readable as the size allows. All processing happens in your browser — your sensitive documents never leave your device.

Note: If your PDF contains very high-resolution scanned images, the compressed version may show some quality reduction. For best results, scan documents at 150 DPI instead of 300 DPI before creating the PDF.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my PDF safe? Does it get uploaded anywhere?
Your PDF never leaves your device. All compression happens inside your browser using JavaScript. No file is uploaded to any server. This is especially important for sensitive documents like mark sheets, certificates, and identity proofs.
What if the PDF still exceeds 200KB after compression?
The tool tells you if it cannot reach the target. This happens with many pages at a very small target, because each page needs some minimum size to stay legible. Remove pages you do not need with the PDF splitter, then compress again.
Will text in the PDF remain readable after compression?
If the lossless step is enough, nothing changes and text stays selectable. If the pages had to be turned into pictures, text is still readable but can no longer be selected or searched, and small print can get soft at very low targets. The result shows the resolution (DPI) used — 100 DPI or more reads comfortably.
What size limit does my exam need?
It depends on the exam, the document and the year — limits change between notifications. The official notification or the upload page states the limit. Type that number into the Custom box and compress.
What is the document size limit on NSP (National Scholarship Portal)?
NSP’s FAQ for students (2023-24) says each document should be a PDF or JPEG of not more than 200 KB. The upload screen on the portal shows the current rule, so check it there. Keep 200 KB selected above and compress your income certificate, caste certificate, marksheet or passbook one by one.
