How to get a PDF under 1 MB

1 MB is roomy: most scanned documents fit at a sharp resolution, and many PDFs fit without losing any quality at all. The tool tries a lossless clean-up first. Only if that is not enough does it turn pages into pictures, at the highest resolution that still fits.

A photo of a document, not a PDF? Use JPG to PDF and pick “under 1 MB”.
Very long PDF (100+ pages)? Split it first — the tool handles up to 100 pages at a time.

Questions people ask

Is 1 MB counted as 1000 KB or 1024 KB?

Portals count it either way. This tool aims for 1,000,000 bytes, which is under the limit whichever way the portal counts, so the file is not rejected for being a few KB over.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The PDF is compressed inside your browser and never leaves your device. The page keeps working even if you go offline after it loads.

Will the text stay readable?

If the lossless step is enough, nothing changes and text stays selectable. Otherwise each page is turned into a picture at the highest resolution that fits; the result shows the DPI used. Around 100 DPI or more reads comfortably.

The PDF has a password. What do I do?
