How to get a PDF under 2 MB

A 2 MB limit usually trips up long scans and PDFs made from phone photos, which can be many MB. The tool first re-saves the PDF without losing anything; if that is still too big, it turns pages into pictures at the highest resolution that fits under 2 MB.

Questions people ask

Is 2 MB counted as 2000 KB or 2048 KB?
Portals count it either way. This tool aims for 2,000,000 bytes, which is under the limit whichever way the portal counts, so the file is not rejected for being a few KB over.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is compressed inside your browser and never leaves your device. The page keeps working even if you go offline after it loads.
Will the text stay readable?
If the lossless step is enough, nothing changes and text stays selectable. Otherwise each page is turned into a picture at the highest resolution that fits; the result shows the DPI used. Around 100 DPI or more reads comfortably.
The PDF has a password. What do I do?
