The e-Aadhaar password rule

UIDAI’s rule: the first 4 letters of your name in CAPITAL letters, followed by your year of birth (YYYY). UIDAI’s own examples:

Questions people ask

What is the password of the e-Aadhaar PDF?
The first 4 letters of your name in CAPITAL letters followed by your year of birth, e.g. SURESH KUMAR born 1990 → SURE1990. Spaces are skipped (SAI KUMAR → SAIK1990), a dot counts as a character (P. KUMAR → P.KU1990) and a name shorter than 4 letters is used whole (RIA → RIA1990). These are UIDAI’s own examples (UIDAI).
The password is not working. What should I check?
Use the name exactly as printed in English on your Aadhaar, including initials and dots. Use only the 4-digit year of birth, not the full date. If you changed your name recently, download the e-Aadhaar again so the file and the name match.
Is the copy without a password still a valid e-Aadhaar?
It has the same content, but it is a re-saved copy. UIDAI digitally signs e-Aadhaar, and any change to the file — including removing the password — means PDF readers will no longer show that signature as valid. If a form only needs a readable copy, the unlocked file works; if someone checks the digital signature, give them the original download.
Is my Aadhaar uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF, your name and your year of birth stay in your browser. Nothing is sent to any server, and the page works offline once it has loaded.
Can it open an e-Aadhaar without the password?
No. It needs the right password — made from your name and year of birth. It does not guess or break passwords.
