What photo size does SSC require?
SSC no longer takes an uploaded photo: in the 2026 notices (CGL, CHSL, JE) the application captures your photo live with the camera — a plain background, no cap, mask or spectacles. You only upload your signature: JPG, 10–20 KB, about 6.0 × 2.0 cm (SSC CHSL 2026 notice, paras 9.4–9.6, checked 16 Oct 2026).
Does my photo get uploaded to any server?
No. Your photo is processed entirely inside your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. No photo is uploaded to any server. This is important since application photos are personal documents.
What is the difference between photo for SSC and UPSC?
SSC captures the photo live in the form and asks for a 10–20 KB JPG signature. UPSC asks you to upload both: a JPG photo and a JPG signature (signed three times, one below the other), each 20–300 KB and between 350×350 and 1000×1000 pixels (UPSC online application FAQ 43–44, checked 16 Oct 2026); the CSE 2026 notice also asks for a live photo. Always check the latest official notice — rules change.
