Writing amounts on a cheque — quick rules
- Words and figures must match — banks can return a cheque where they differ (Section 18, Negotiable Instruments Act).
- Always end with "Only" (English) or "मात्र" (Hindi) so nothing can be appended.
- Start writing immediately after "Rupees"/"रुपये" with no gap, and strike through leftover space.
