The d×d/162 formula
Steel weighs about 7,850 kg per cubic metre, so a round bar of diameter d mm weighs d × d ÷ 162 kg per metre (12 mm → 0.889 kg/m). The weight on the bill may differ a little — bars are rolled to a tolerance. Your engineer’s bar bending schedule gives the lengths, laps and number of bars.

Questions people ask
How do I calculate steel weight?
Weight per metre = d × d ÷ 162 (d in mm). Multiply by the total length. For example 10 bars of 12 mm, 12 m each = 120 m × 0.889 = 106.7 kg.
How many 12 m bars?
Total length ÷ 12, rounded up — the page shows it for each diameter (change the bar length if yours are sold in another length).
