Sub-meters

Who pays what

Fill in the readings to see each share.

How it works

  • Units = current reading − previous reading of each sub-meter.
  • Split the main bill: the rate is the bill’s own average — bill amount ÷ units on the main bill — so fixed charges and taxes on the bill are shared in the same proportion. Without the main bill’s units, the whole bill is shared by the sub-meter units.
  • Fixed ₹ per unit: units × the rate you agreed, plus any fixed charge per person.
  • This is only the arithmetic. What may be charged is set by your rent agreement and your electricity board’s rules.
  • Nothing is saved or sent — the readings stay in your browser.

Kaise use karein

  1. Main bill ki rakam aur units likhein (ya fixed rate chunein).
  2. Har sub-meter ki pichhli aur abhi ki reading likhein.
  3. Har kirayedar ka hissa dekhein, WhatsApp par bhejein.

Dhyan dein

Yeh sirf hisaab hai — kitna lena hai yeh rent agreement aur bijli board ke niyam tay karte hain.

Questions people ask

How do I split one electricity bill between tenants with sub-meters?
Write each sub-meter’s previous and current reading. Their units × the bill’s average rate (bill amount ÷ units on the main bill) gives each share. Units that no sub-meter counts — stairs light, water motor — can be shared equally, by units, or paid by the owner.
Why use the bill’s average rate?
The bill amount includes slab rates, fixed charges and taxes. Dividing the amount by the units shares all of it in proportion, so the shares add up exactly to the bill.
What if the sub-meters add up to more than the main meter?
Then a reading or the bill is wrong — sub-meters cannot use more than the main meter. The calculator stops and asks you to check.
Can I use a fixed rate like ₹8 a unit?
Yes. Choose “Fixed ₹ per unit”, type the rate you agreed and, if any, a fixed charge per person. What may be charged is set by your rent agreement and your electricity board’s rules — this tool only does the sum.
Is anything saved?
No. The readings stay in your browser and are gone when you close the page.
