Percentage Formulas — All Types

Basic Percentage — X% of Y

Result = (X ÷ 100) × Y Example: 18% of 5000 = (18 ÷ 100) × 5000 = 900

What Percentage — X is what % of Y

Percentage = (X ÷ Y) × 100 Example: 450 is what % of 600 = (450 ÷ 600) × 100 = 75%

Percentage Increase

% Increase = ((New − Old) ÷ Old) × 100 Example: 800 to 1000 = ((1000 − 800) ÷ 800) × 100 = 25% increase

Percentage Decrease

% Decrease = ((Old − New) ÷ Old) × 100 Example: 1000 to 700 = ((1000 − 700) ÷ 1000) × 100 = 30% decrease

Discount Price

Sale Price = Original Price × (1 − Discount% ÷ 100) Example: ₹1000 at 20% off = 1000 × (1 − 0.20) = ₹800 You save = ₹1000 − ₹800 = ₹200

Marks Percentage

Percentage = (Total Marks Obtained ÷ Total Maximum Marks) × 100 Example: 450 out of 600 = (450 ÷ 600) × 100 = 75%

90% and above: A+ / O (Outstanding) — Distinction

75% – 89%: A (Excellent) — First Class with Distinction

60% – 74%: B (Good) — First Class

50% – 59%: C (Average) — Second Class

How to calculate percentage of marks in India? +
Add up all marks obtained across all subjects. Add up all maximum marks. Divide total obtained by total maximum and multiply by 100. Example: You got 450 marks out of 600 total. Percentage = (450 ÷ 600) × 100 = 75%. Use the Marks % tab above to calculate this automatically for all your subjects.
How to calculate GST percentage? +
To add GST: Final price = Original price × (1 + GST rate ÷ 100). For 18% GST on ₹1000: Final = 1000 × 1.18 = ₹1,180. GST amount = ₹180. To remove GST from a price that already includes it: Original = Price ÷ (1 + GST rate ÷ 100). For 18% GST inclusive ₹1,180: Original = 1180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000.
How to calculate percentage increase in salary? +
Use the % Change tab or the Salary Hike quick calculator. Formula: Hike amount = Current salary × Hike % ÷ 100. New salary = Current salary + Hike amount. Example: ₹50,000 salary with 15% hike. Hike = 50,000 × 15 ÷ 100 = ₹7,500. New salary = ₹57,500.
How to find original price after discount? +
Use the Reverse % tab. If you know the sale price and discount percentage, the original price = Sale price ÷ (1 − Discount% ÷ 100). Example: Sale price is ₹800 after 20% discount. Original = 800 ÷ (1 − 0.20) = 800 ÷ 0.80 = ₹1,000.
