India has no single standard for land measurement. Each state uses different units — and the same unit (like Bigha) means different sizes in different states. A Bigha in UP is different from a Bigha in Gujarat or Rajasthan. This causes massive confusion in property transactions.
Standard units: The Indian government uses Square Meters (sq m) and Hectares for official records. However, local transactions still use traditional units that vary by region.
1 Acre: The most universally understood unit across India = 4,047 sq meters = 43,560 sq feet.
1 Hectare: = 2.47 acres = 10,000 sq meters. Used in official government documents.
