Is a paper print of e-Aadhaar valid?

Yes. UIDAI says a print-out of the downloaded e-Aadhaar, even in black and white, is as valid as the Aadhaar letter it posts, and that there is no need to print it on a plastic/PVC card or get it laminated. It warns that unauthorised plastic “smart cards” often break the QR code and hand your details to strangers.

How to get a wallet-size Aadhaar on paper

  • Download your e-Aadhaar from MyAadhaar and choose it above. The page finds the front and back and puts boxes on them — check them, and drag a box if it is off.
  • Choose Side by side to fold the paper in the middle, so the front and back are on the two faces of one card. Choose Apart to cut out two pieces.
  • Print on A4 at 100%, cut along the thin lines, fold if you chose side by side.

Want to hide the first 8 digits before printing? Use Aadhaar Masking first. For an upload, compress the e-Aadhaar instead.

Questions people ask

Is a print-out of e-Aadhaar on ordinary paper valid?
Yes. UIDAI says the print-out of the downloaded Aadhaar, even in black and white, is as valid as the original Aadhaar letter, and that there is no need to print it on a plastic/PVC card or laminate it (UIDAI press release, 6 Feb 2018).
What size does the card print at?
Each side fits into 85.6 × 54 mm — the size of an ATM card — when you print the PDF at 100% (“Actual size”) on A4. If your printer shrinks it (“Fit to page”), the card comes out smaller.
My e-Aadhaar is locked. What is the password?
The first 4 letters of your name in CAPITALS followed by your year of birth, e.g. SURESH KUMAR born 1990 → SURE1990. Type your name and year and the page makes it for you. The PDF is opened only in your browser.
The boxes are not on the card. What do I do?
Drag each box onto its side of the card and drag the small square at its corner to resize it — or use the arrow and Smaller/Bigger buttons. The two previews show exactly what will print.
Can I make a PVC card here?
No. This page prints on paper only. UIDAI has warned against unauthorised plastic Aadhaar cards — they often break the QR code and put your details in strangers’ hands.
Is my Aadhaar uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF, your name and your year of birth stay in your browser; the print PDF is made on your device.
