Everything you type stays in your browser — nothing is uploaded or saved.

Give it to the bank or police and keep the stamped copy; attach screenshots and the statement.

What to do, in order

  1. At once: call 1930 or report on cybercrime.gov.in (“Any victim of financial cyber fraud can dial helpline number 1930”), and ask your bank to block the card / UPI / net banking. Note the acknowledgement and complaint numbers.
  2. In writing to the bank: give or email this letter with screenshots and the statement. Keep the stamped copy or the email.
  3. RBI’s rules on your liability depend on the date of the transaction. Before 1 January 2027 (RBI circular of 6 July 2017): zero liability for a third-party breach reported within 3 working days of the bank’s alert, limited liability for 4–7 working days, shadow credit within 10 working days of your report, complaint settled within 90 days, and the bank must prove your liability. From 1 January 2027 (RBI Directions of 24 June 2026): zero liability for a third-party breach reported within 5 calendar days, a reply within 45 days (60 for cross-border), and — for losses up to ₹50,000 caused by your own mistake — 85% of the net loss up to ₹25,000, once in a lifetime, if you reported on 1930 / NCRP and to the bank within 5 calendar days.
  4. Bank says no or doesn’t answer in 30 days? Complain to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in (or call 14448). Under the Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, 2026 you must go to the bank first, and a police case is not treated as the same grievance.
  5. Track the police complaint under “Track your Complaint” on cybercrime.gov.in. Sources checked 30 Oct 2026. This is a draft to help you, not legal advice.

Kaise use karein

  1. Pehle 1930 par call karein ya cybercrime.gov.in par report karein, aur bank se card / UPI block karwayein.
  2. Har transaction ki date, amount aur UTR bharein — RBI ke niyam aur din apne aap dikhenge.
  3. Bank ke liye letter (ya police ke liye) PDF download karein, sign karke screenshots ke saath dein.

Dhyan dein

Letter mein kabhi bhi poora card number, CVV, PIN, OTP ya password na likhein. Jitni jaldi report karenge, utna achha.

Questions people ask

What should I do first after an online fraud?
Call 1930 or report on cybercrime.gov.in, and ask your bank to block the card / UPI / net banking — at once. Then give the bank a written complaint with the transaction details; this page writes it.
Will the bank return my money?
It depends on RBI’s rules and on who was at fault. For transactions before 1 Jan 2027: zero liability if the bank was at fault, or for a third-party breach reported within 3 working days; limited liability for 4–7 working days. From 1 Jan 2027: zero liability for a third-party breach reported within 5 calendar days, and small-value compensation in some cases. The bank must prove any liability it puts on you.
I shared the OTP — can I still get anything back?
Under the 2017 rules you bear the loss until you report it to the bank. For transactions from 1 Jan 2027, RBI’s new directions give 85% of the net loss up to ₹25,000 (for losses up to ₹50,000, once in a lifetime) if the loss is bona fide and you reported on 1930 / NCRP and to the bank within 5 calendar days. Report anyway — losses after you report are borne by the bank.
Where do I complain if the bank refuses?
To the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in, after the bank rejects your complaint or does not answer in 30 days (or the longer RBI / NPCI / card-network timeline). A police case does not stop it.
Can I write the complaint in Hindi?
Yes. Choose हिन्दी above the form, and पुरुष or महिला so the verbs are right.
Is anything I type sent anywhere?
No. The letter is made in your browser. Never put your full card number, CVV, PIN, OTP or password in any letter.
