Good to know

Aadhaar: name can be updated twice in a lifetime and date of birth once; more changes only through UIDAI’s exception process (call 1947). Name and date of birth are changed at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra, not online.
PAN: spelling and initials need an ID showing the corrected name; a bigger change needs proof such as a marriage certificate or a gazette notification.
Fix the documents one by one, starting with the one most others are checked against. Keep copies of every application.

My name is different in Aadhaar and PAN. Which one should I correct?

Pick the version on your birth certificate or 10th certificate and correct the others to match it. Aadhaar is corrected at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra; PAN through a “Changes or Correction in PAN Data” request with Protean or UTIITSL.

How many times can I change my name or date of birth in Aadhaar?

Name twice in a lifetime and date of birth once, as per UIDAI. Further changes go through UIDAI’s exception process — call 1947.

Is initials vs full name a mismatch?

Offices may treat it as one. For PAN it is a marginal correction: an identity proof showing the corrected name is enough. This page tells you whether the difference is small or a real name change.

What proof is accepted for date of birth in PAN?

A document from a competent authority with your name and date of birth — for example the matriculation certificate or marksheet, or the birth certificate from the municipal authority.
