How cm, pixels and DPI fit together

A photo file has a size in pixels. The DPI (dots per inch) says how many of those pixels go into each inch on paper. So 3.5 × 4.5 cm at 300 DPI is 413 × 531 pixels, and at 200 DPI it is 276 × 354 pixels. This tool makes exactly that many pixels and writes the DPI into the file, so it prints at the right size.

Questions people ask

How many pixels is 3.5 × 4.5 cm?
It depends on the DPI: 413 × 531 pixels at 300 DPI, 276 × 354 at 200 DPI. Pixels = centimetres ÷ 2.54 × DPI.
Which DPI should I choose?
Use the DPI your form asks for. If it only gives a size in cm, 300 DPI prints sharp; 200 DPI makes a smaller file.
Can I also keep the file under a KB limit?
Yes. Type the limit in “Keep under”. The pixel size stays exact and the JPEG quality is lowered only as much as needed. Some forms also set a minimum — type it in “At least”.
Will it print at the exact size?
Yes, if you print at 100% or Actual size. The DPI is written into the file, so the printer knows how big each pixel is.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Resizing happens in your browser and the photo never leaves your device.
