Frequently Asked Questions
Does this word counter work for Hindi text? +
Yes. The word counter works for Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati and all Indian languages. Words are counted by spaces between them, which works the same way in Devanagari script as in English. Character count also works correctly for all Unicode characters used in Indian scripts.
Is my text saved or sent anywhere? +
No. Everything happens in your browser. Your text is never sent to any server. You can turn off your internet right now and this tool will continue working perfectly. Your text stays completely private on your device.
What is the difference between word count and character count? +
Word count counts the number of separate words separated by spaces. "The quick brown fox" = 4 words. Character count counts every individual letter, space, number and punctuation mark. "The quick brown fox" = 19 characters with spaces, 15 characters without spaces. Social media platforms like Twitter use character count, while essays and assignments typically use word count.
How is reading time calculated? +
Reading time is calculated at 200 words per minute, which is the average silent reading speed for an adult. Speaking time is calculated at 130 words per minute, which is a comfortable speaking pace for presentations. These are averages — actual reading speed varies by person and content complexity.
What does keyword density mean? +
Keyword density shows how often each word appears in your text as a percentage of total words. For SEO content, a keyword density of 1-2% for your main keyword is generally recommended. Very high density (over 4-5%) can seem unnatural and may hurt readability. Common words like "the", "and", "is" are filtered out automatically.
Can I set a character or word limit? +
Yes. Enter your limit in the "Limit" field in the toolbar. A progress bar will appear showing how close you are to the limit. The counter turns yellow when you are at 90% of your limit and red when you exceed it. You can also click any social media card below the editor to instantly set that platform's character limit.
