When a release deed is used

When co-owners of inherited or joint property agree that one of them gives up their share to another — for example a sister releasing her share in the family land to her brother. Both sign with two witnesses.

Registration: documents about land or a house often have to be registered at the sub-registrar's office, with stamp duty that depends on the State. Ask the sub-registrar's office or a lawyer before you sign.

Is a release deed different from a gift deed?
